How to estimate mobile home piers

Every manufactured home sits on a set of piers that transfer the weight of the home to the ground and keep the floor level. When you get a quote for leveling, re-leveling, or a new setup, the contractor is really counting piers. What piers actually do

Piers are stacks of concrete block, or manufactured steel stands, placed at regular intervals under the home's main steel I-beams. Their job is simple: hold the home up and keep it level. Over time, soil settles and homes shift, which is why re-leveling is a routine maintenance task for mobile homes.

Length and type drive the count

Two inputs matter most. Length sets how many piers each beam needs at a given spacing. Home type sets how many beams you have. A single wide has two main beams, a double wide has four, and a triple wide has six. That is why a longer double wide can easily need two to three times as many piers as a short single wide.

Why double and triple wides add more piers

Double and triple wide homes are shipped as two or three halves that are joined on site. That join, called the marriage line, is a structural seam and needs its own line of supports underneath. This calculator adds those marriage line piers automatically when you pick double or triple wide.

Spacing depends on soil and code

Typical pier spacing is 8 to 10 feet, but softer soils, higher home weight, and stricter local codes push spacing closer together. The default 9 foot spacing is a reasonable middle of the road value. If your area is known for soft or wet soil, try 6 to 8 feet and see how the count changes.
