Assumptions
DG behaves differently from gravel: it compacts. That means the loose cubic yards you order compress by roughly 15 percent when tamped, so ordering exactly the calculated volume leaves you short. This calculator defaults to a 15 percent waste allowance to cover compaction and perimeter losses.
Stabilized DG mixes a binder into the fines, producing a firmer, lower-dust surface that resists erosion. It costs more per yard but usually pays back in reduced top-ups.
