Sizing a crushed stone order

Crushed stone spreads at the standard rate of 1 cubic yard per 100 sq ft at 3 inches, or 81 sq ft at 4 inches. For a driveway that needs a 4 inch top layer, budget 1 cubic yard per 80 sq ft with a 10 percent waste allowance.

Which size?

  • 3/8 inch: walkways and top-dressing on packed base
  • 3/4 inch: driveways and general fill (most common)
  • 1 to 1 1/2 inch: drainage stone, dry wells, french drains
